Frequently asked questions

Find out more about ear checks, common symptoms and how to prepare for your appointment.

What happens during an ear health appointment?

A trained member of our pharmacy team will discuss your symptoms and examine your ear canals and eardrums. We will explain what we find and recommend the safest next step.

Can you check my ears even if I do not have earwax?

Yes. Our ear health check can help identify common concerns such as inflammation, infection, a perforated eardrum or a build-up of wax.

Do I need to prepare before my appointment?

If you think you have compacted earwax, we may recommend using olive-oil ear drops beforehand. Contact the pharmacy if you are unsure or have a history of ear surgery or a perforated eardrum.

When should I seek urgent medical help?

Seek urgent advice for sudden hearing loss, severe pain, significant discharge, swelling behind the ear, dizziness, or symptoms alongside a high temperature or feeling very unwell.
