Key features of Private Prescription
Getting your private prescription dispensed at Batley Pharmacy is straightforward. Here’s what to expect.
Cost
Unlike NHS prescriptions, with private prescriptions, you are required to pay the full cost of medication, including the dispensing fee charged by the pharmacy. Ensure you understand all potential costs before proceeding.
Prescription Access
To obtain a private prescription, you must consult a healthcare provider. The consultation fee depends on the type of service provided.
Medication Availability
Private prescriptions are used to access a wide range of medications, including those not available through the NHS.
What is a private prescription?
A private prescription is a medical prescription issued outside of the NHS. Private prescriptions are provided by a licensed healthcare provider.
If you have been issued a private or NHS prescription from your doctor or prescribing healthcare professional, we can dispense your medication.
Common questions about private prescriptions
A private prescription is a medical prescription issued outside of the NHS. Private prescriptions are provided by a licensed healthcare provider.
How long are private prescriptions valid for?
Most private prescriptions are valid for six months from the date they are signed. Prescriptions for Schedule 2, 3 and 4 controlled drugs are only valid for 28 days.
Are private prescriptions more expensive?
You pay the full cost of the medicine plus a dispensing fee, so the price depends on what has been prescribed. Some items cost less than the NHS charge and others cost more — ask us for a quote before we dispense.
Are private prescriptions free for people aged 60 and above?
No. NHS prescription exemptions, including age-related exemptions, only apply to NHS prescriptions. Private prescriptions are charged in full for everyone.
Can I take private prescriptions to any pharmacy in the UK?
Yes. A valid private prescription from a UK-registered prescriber can be dispensed at any UK pharmacy, including Batley Pharmacy, whether it is on paper or sent electronically.
